KTC
Committee News
The
KTC AGM was held on 28th April. The committee is Greg
Henschke (President),
Scott Bourne (VP), Fiona Walker (Secretary, Public Officer), Fiona Upstill (Treasurer),
Steve Buderick, Kathy Brummitt, Nick Mathas and Andrew Bell who were on the committee last year, and are joined by
Graham Cole, John & Tracy Murden & Max Morris.
Thanks to last years committee which also included Jan
Henschke and Tim Capes, and did a fantastic job.
Committee
meetings are at 7 pm every 2nd Tuesday of the month.
Future notice of meetings will be put on the noticeboard at the
club. The next meeting will be this Tuesday 11/5 at the
clubrooms. All members and parents of junior members are
welcome.
As
President my goal for the KTC this year is to consolidate last
years rapid growth - to retain the friendly, participative
spirit, membership number of 200 and weekly events of 2003. I
hope you will join us to make my goal a reality.

4X
State of Origin Social Tennis Night 22nd May
Social
Doubles Tennis in State of Origin format. All welcome, but can
only accept 48 players, so first in gets the place. $16 for the
night starting at 6pm includes tea & complimentary 4X beer.
Ring or fax the club on 89711436, but be early as these events
are great fun and positions fill quickly.
The
next social event we are thinking about is a Family Social
Tennis night of parents & children uniting as doubles
partnerships. Keep your eye on the noticeboard for this fun
event.
Junior
Tennis
The
Junior tennis competition started on Sunday 9/5 with
disappointing numbers. Many who said they would come didnt,
even though Steve Merker spent most of Sunday on the phone. With
this in mind I am recommending the formation of a Junior
Committee to assist Steve in junior development and to encourage
greater participation from junior players parents. Keep an
eye on the noticeboard for more developments. The junior
competition will now begin this Sunday 16/5, so if you are
interested please contact Steve and then turn up on Sunday. Our
juniors can only improve with match play.
Katherine
Open
The
Katherine Open was on the May long weekend (1st-3rd).
117 entrants played and it was an extremely successful event.
Thanks to the many volunteers who helped make the event
the success it was Fiona
Walker (Tourn Referee),
Andrew Bell, Fiona Upstill (both on the Tourn Desk),
Steve Merker, Kathy Brummitt, Vicki Carussi, Scott Bourne, Jan
& Angela Henschke, Zoe Walker, Steve & Lisa Buderick,
Sonia and Nick Mathas, Tig Donnellan, Di Jennison, Sue Hall,
Kris Lynch, Toni Bellingham, Melissa Flood, Jill McAnulty
and many others. (Apologies for those not mentioned.)

also to our fantastic sponsors - Macs

Club
Improvements
Thanks
to Steve Buderick and Tim Capes for organizing the hitting wall,
gates to the BMX carpark area, and the shadescreen for the fence
in front of the clubhouse. These improvements have certainly
made a difference.
The
Hitting Wall has already had a thousand hits and is a huge
success. Thanks to the NT Govt Office for Sport & Recreation
for funding and Upstill
Constructions (a KTC sponsor) for the construction.
The
shadescreen was made by Katherine Canvas & Upholstery and is
doing a great job of keeping the sun out of our eyes..
We
have also had a sign made for the front gate by Katherine Paint
& Signs in incredibly quick time.
Also
thanks to Di Jennison who has answered our call for help and
made & installed curtains for the clubhouse. If you too can
see an area in the club in which you can help, please have a
chat to a committee person.
The
clubhouse is now being cleaned by a junior member every 2nd
week, so thanks to Angela Henschke for your help. The outside
area still is left in an untidy state too often. Please help us
out by putting your rubbish in the bin and tidying up your chair
and table after you use it. Thanks to Tig we are now recycling
drink cans in the rubbish bale. The big bin is always open, so
if you see the bins full, please take the time to empty them.
Also
can all juniors involved in coaching please collect your balls
at the end of each session, including the balls hit over the
fence? Thanks.
Club
T-Shirts
New
Club TShirts and caps are now available at the Club. They look
great so buy one for yourself. I stress buy, as some members
have still not paid for last years TShirt. If this is you please
pay Steve today before your name appears on a debt list on the
club noticeboard. Thank you.
